Vale - Ian Ritchie

To the Radio Sailing Community in WA:

It is my very sad duty to advise you that our friend Ian Ritchie passed away last night.

Ian sailed from Freshwater Bay YC in various classes for many years. He came to radio sailing in the early 2000s purchasing a Cockatoo IOM which he named “Heaven can wait” – a name with a personal message behind it. My first meeting with Ian was at the National Championships which were held at the South of Perth Yacht Club in 2003. Ian was instrumental in setting up the original West Coast Radio Yacht Club which operated for many years. He was a great supporter of our little radio sailing community, travelling around the country and state to participate in many different regattas.

Ian’s profession of accountancy naturally led him to volunteer to act as our WA State Treasurer, a role he fulfilled with skill and diligence for many years. Ian has left his mark on radio sailing in WA, and we will certainly miss him.

Ian was a good friend who loved his sailing. Even when his health was in decline, he cherished the times he spent at the side of the lake with his mates. He appreciated the help that everyone gave him when it came to launching and retrieving his boat, getting him set up in a place where he could sail and enjoy the afternoon.

We extend our condolences to Ian’s wife, Jackie and his children.
It is too soon to let you know of any arrangements, but I will advise when known.

RIP Ian – heaven has waited and you have made the most of your time with us.

Regards
